The ascension teaches us among other things;

  1. The Ascension teaches us that the Church is essential.
  2. The Ascension teaches us prayer before action.
  3. The Ascension reminds us that our prayer must be patient.
  4. The Ascension teaches us that one of the best prayers we can utter is simply, Come, Holy Spirit!
  5. God always gives us what we need, not what we want.
  6. Obey, even if you don’t fully understand.
  7. When it comes to prayer, never give up.

Ascension is a solemnity that sustains the hope of Christians that, one day we shall be where Christ is. One day we shall be happy with him. One day we shall see him as he is. One day our longing will be settled.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that: “…Jesus Christ the head of the Church precedes us into His Father’s glorious kingdom, so that we the members of his body may live in the hope of one day being with him forever.” (665-667).

Our pilgrimage is a journey of spiritual maturity to prepare us for ETERNITY WITH GOD.

Our pilgrimage is a journey of spiritual patience to prepare us for ETERNITY WITH GOD.

Our pilgrimage is a journey with many handles to prepare us for ETERNITY WITH GOD.

Our pilgrimage is a journey of hope to prepare us for ETERNITY WITH GOD.

Our pilgrimage is a journey of trust to prepare us for ETERNITY WITH GOD.

Our pilgrimage is a process leading us to a graduation…a Divine Graduation……….….Beatific Vision.

At times in life, we are too much in a hurry to begin, to make an impact, and to impress others. For example, young girls want to hook up with someone as quickly as possible without being prepared or mature for a relationship.

How mature were you to enter into a relationship?

Remember, every man is good, but not every good man is right to be your spouse.

Knowing someone for a long time does not make the person qualify to be a spouse.

The greatest injustice you can do to yourself is to graduate the wrong relationship into marriage, or to an intimate relationship.

Some friendships are supposed to remain just like that, friendship.

Do not graduate what was never meant for graduation.

Every graduation MUST meet some requirements eg…………

“If you are nursing a heart-break, may be you need to probe the process……………you may have graduated the wrong person to a wrong position”

Young men want to get rich as quickly as they could without learning or knowing the principles of success and prosperity.
The result most times is always failure because we are not adequately prepared or mature to take up the next challenge in life.
Quick fix mentality is the greatest disease with our young people today.
Most of our young people want to go to work on Monday and by Friday they get rich…………………where on earth does that happen??

Some don’t want to go through college or university course, they want a business that gives them money instantly.
Which course has a lot of money? NONE
Your parents are going back to school at 40, 50, 60 and you are running away from school for marriage or work, you need to have your head examined.

Dear girls, if you hear a man telling you to stop school to marry him, just know that you have come face to face with an abuser, enemy of progress, a walking tragedy and if not very careful, the reason for your early death.
Dear young men, if your classmates are telling you to stop schooling to go for business, just know that you are in a company OF DESTRUCTIVE NATURE
There is time for everything…………….Ecc 3:1-8

The same thing happens in our spiritual journey. At times, we are too much in a hurry to begin our spiritual journey without, or with very little preparation.

In today’s first reading, Christ warned his disciples: “Remain in Jerusalem until the Father fulfils his promise.”

In today’s gospel, the Apostles religiously obeyed this instruction: “They did him homage and returned to Jerusalem with great joy and were continually in the temple praising God.”

They were in the temple in Jerusalem waiting for “the yeast” (the Holy Spirit) that will help them mature and age spiritually. As in wine production, this was very necessary to bring out the strength and sweetness in them for their mission.

So, like them, we must obey Christ too and allow his Spirit to fill us and to open the eyes of our mind as Paul prayed for us today in our second reading: “May the eyes of your hearts be enlightened.”

10 BENEFITS OF OBEDIENCE

Remission of Sin –

To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins. Acts 10:43

Fullness of Joy –

But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves. John 17:13 NKJV, Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you. John 16:22

Gift of Holy Spirit –

He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. John 16:14
The Father’s Love – Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. John 14:23

Bear Much Fruit –

I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. John 15:5 NKJV, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23

No More Darkness

I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness. John 12:46 NKJV

Gain Wisdom –

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5 NKJV, Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. Matthew 7:24-25

Become Holy and Blameless –

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. Ephesians 1:3-6

Live in Freedom –

Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 2 Corinthians 3:17

Answered Prayer –

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Matthew 7:7-8
