It has become almost cliché to hear the phrase ‘never give up’. During tough times especially, one can even become upset when a friend consoles them with the quote. It is hard sometimes to keep the faith when things are not going ‘our way’ and when we feel like God is taking ‘forever’ to answer our prayers. I have heard of a quote that says ‘when the going gets tough, the tough get going’, and as much as it is easy to say when things are not as bad, it is very true.

God, in the Bible, speaks to us numerously about never giving up. Joshua 1:9 says
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” This says it all, that even is terrifying, discouraging and perplexing situations, we should hold on to the faith that our Almighty Father will never let us go.

Psalms 23:4 says “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” Situations in life may not be as easy as we wish they were, but we are comforted by the fact that through whatever we go through, we are no alone. Psalms 91:2 sums this up “I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

It is easy to believe these scriptures when things are going well, when we are healthy and happy, when riches are in abundance and we have not much to complain about. But when things seem hard and we feel like we cannot pull through, it is the time we should try hard to not give up on God’s promises. I do know for sure, that we should pray hardest when it is hardest to pray.
