Introduction
In the moments of sorrow, the Lord is in our midst and comforts us with his words: Blessed are the sorrowful; they shall be consoled.
Opening Prayer
Loving and merciful God,
we entrust our sister/brother to your mercy.
You loved him/her greatly in this life:
now that s/he is freed from all its cares,
give him/her happiness and peace for ever.
The old order has passed away:
welcome him/her now into Paradise
where there will be no more sorrow,
no more weeping or pain,
but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son,
and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever.
Amen.
REFLECTION 4
1 Corinthians 15:26—27, 54–57
The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For “God has put all things in subjection under his feet.” But when it says, “all things are put in subjection,” it is plain that he is excepted who put all things in subjection under him.
When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written:
“Death is swallowed up in victory.”
“O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?”
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
When believers are finally resurrected from the dead, the destruction of death will be complete.
DAY 4 – NOVENA FOR THE DEAD
Gracious God,
through whose mercy the saints rest in glory,
we beg you to set free those blessed souls in purgatory,
especially for the soul of___________,
for whom we are praying in this novena.
May you radiate your compassion and love
to them so they may enter into your Kingdom.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord.
Amen.
May the souls of the faithful departed through the Mercy of God rest in peace.
Amen
