SONS NOVENA DAY 15:
MAN OF THE DAY: Gideon.
PRAYER FOCUS: GENUINENESS AND PERSEVERANCE
(Judges 6:11 – 8:32)
Why do I love Gideon? And why counting him as one of these successful people in the Bible? Because…
He is genuine
He’s just like anyone of us. As Gideon, we sometimes get stuck in our daily routine. This leads us to be unaware that God has actually a bigger calling for us. We could say the same about other characters too. But for some reason, I find him very likeable. I guess it is also because of how he genuinely answered God during their first encounter in the book of Judges.
12 And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!”
13 Gideon said to Him, “O [a]my lord, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.”
Jg 6:12-13
No pretention, bigotry or hypocrisy, just real talk about his opinion. And you have to realize that it didn’t disqualify him in the eyes of God. When God chooses you, He chooses you, warts and all. Still, he was at that place of doubt, low self-esteem and pessimism. However Gideon cooperated when God insisted on him going to war. And succeeded, by beating the Midianites, indeed.
He is perseverant
After the surprising victory, Gideon doesn’t give up in completing thoroughly his mission, he runs after the Midianites over the Jordan river and makes sure to defeat them, no matter the lack of cooperation from the Sukkot and Penual tribes.
Surpassing his hunger and tiredness, he exhorts his men and finally gets his hands on the kings and puts an end to their lives. He could have complained about the lack of solidarity of the Sukkot and Penual people; instead, he remained focused and achieved his mission. Perseverance and focus always bring in the expected result for successful people.
PRAYER FOR PERSEVERING IN GODLY TRUST PRAYER.
Father, Your word is trustworthy and worthy of all praise. Your word is true and Your promises are faithful. When difficulties strike fear in my heart, I know I can come to You for help. I entrust my life to you. I need not be afraid for there is nothing any mere human can do to me. When troubles come, please remind me to always trust You. When difficulties arise, teach me to continually depend on You. When the challenges ahead seem overwhelming, carry me through by Your grace.
Amen.
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU AFTER THE 21ST DAY?
On the 15th Day, TODAY, YOU WILL MAKE A PLEDGE.
(Make a pledge in your heart, if you have a prayer journal, you can write there)
On the 21st Day, You will be expected to give a SPECIAL OFFERING in faith and gratitude that God has heard your prayers for your son’s life. Since we are Christians, we know that giving of ourselves, our time, our gifts, and yes, our money, to others in this world is an act of faith. Whether we are giving to the church, to our neighbor, to children overseas that we’ve never met… it’s what we do.
We do it because we know it’s what we do as servants of the one who says “love the Lord your God with all your heart mind and soul – and love your neighbor as yourself.”
We give as a result of that little mustard seed of faith we have within us. Faith in God’s promises that have been delivered to us, yet remain unseen.
When we give we declare our freedom from the hold materialism has over our lives. We declare our commitment to something greater, something more important and more significant than the “almighty” dollar.
By giving away without restriction, we declare our faith and confidence in God almighty, creator of all that is. Faith and confidence in what He has done for our sake.
When we give, we are declaring that the faith God has given us in his promises is enough. That the faith we have is enough for us to jump in head first into doing His work in the world – to give as we have already received.
Therefore, on the 15th Day, which is today, YOU WILL MAKE A PLEDGE.
(Make a pledge in your heart, if you have a prayer journal, you can write there)
A pledge is different from a donation or contribution. It is a commitment and an assumption of responsibility. To make a pledge is to venture a relationship.
While the Online congregation unquestionably needs your support to continue its mission and ministry, the act of pledging affects everyone who makes a pledge.
The call to pledge invites us to rethink our relationship to our treasure, whether great or small.
Are we willing to allow God to come between us and money?
Can we say to God, “All that I have is yours,” and then make that sentiment real with concrete action?
Certainly, when we allow God into our lives, we also open ourselves to the transforming power of his generosity and love.
This reminds us that we can NEVER go before Him empty handed.
However, If you are genuinely experiencing financial hardship, you can consider giving your offering at a later date.
DAILY PRAYER OF BLESSING.
My son……………………….. I give to you the blessing of my prayers.
I give to you the blessing of my praise.
I give to you the blessing of my passage.
I give to you the blessing of my purity.
I give to you the blessing of my name.
My son, Because YOU are born of God, YOU shall overcome the world and every battle in it, in Jesus name.
By the blood of Jesus, I blot out every evil family record that may be speaking against you.
Like Joseph, may you receive the anointing to terminate generational battles.
Like Jephtha, may you receive the grace to rewrite our family history positively.
Like David, may you be used to kill the Goliath that we your parents and our seniors could not kill.
Father, empower my son to defeat the forces that defeated our parents and grandparents.
AMEN
Amen in Jesus mighty name.
Amen
