“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”– Luke 16:10.

A wise man once told me that to be able to sustain any healthy relationship, whether personal or professional, one has to have two virtues- trustworthiness and consistency. I did not think of that much at that moment, but as time moved on, I started to understand exactly what he meant. If you deeply think about it, one earns people’s confidence if they can be trusted and if they are consistent.

Many times, we go to God in prayer and ask him to move us to the next level in different aspects of our lives- jobs, housing, church, romantic relationships et al. Sometimes, we feel like He is taking forever to answer. However, if we were to ask ourselves this very hard question, are we already trustworthy and consistent in the level that we currently are in? Let me give you an example. Assuming God gave you Sh. 1000 to start a business, and you squandered the money away, do you think you’d deserve Sh.10,000 or Sh. 100,000 to start a business next time? No! Of course with repentance and prayer, God forgives our lack of trustworthiness. However, it is important to master these two virtues so as to live a life that pleases God.

If you desire for God to uplift you or add to you in a certain area in your life, evaluate yourself and see whether you have been trustworthy with the ‘little’ He has already given you. and if not, take time and confess, repent and correct your mistake. Always remember, to gain confidence with everyone we relate with, it is important to possess trustworthiness and consistency!
