This is basically another way of saying “faith without works is dead”. It also goes for the way in which we approach life based on our belief system or “locus of control” (a concept developed by Julian B. Rotter in 1954).
Rebekah’s example shows us that there must be a balance [between having an internal and external locus of control]. In as much as there is an interplay between the corporeal (natural) and incorporeal (spiritual) realm, there is an interplay between both internal and external factors on the outcome of our lives.
This means that, like Rebekah, we must learn to take advantage of the opportunities that God brings our way and seem to come by chance (as she did when she bumped into Abraham’s servant as he was looking for a wife for Isaac).
But, we must also know when to create our [own] opportunities- thereby putting action behind our faith in the word or revelation of God. In short, we must do what we can and let God do what we can’t.
Prayer
Dear God,
I have faith in all your ways, and I praise your holy name. Hear these prayers for daughters and grant my child compassion for others, which is very important when making new friendships.
Help her keenly judge all her influences and touch her heart with your grace through every word from the bible as she explores the different personalities of others. Amen.

I speak all good blessings into you as a daughter; I call your spirit to life, breaking every curse spoken or send against you.
I speak life into your soul that you may rise up and not fall down.
May you be surrounded with quality friends:
who build-up instead of tear-down
who inspire godliness, instead of provoke evil
who are faithful to you, rather than flighty
who are passionate about you, not apathetic towards you,
who don’t compare
who are not vain
who will encourage you to guard your heart
I give to you the blessing of my prayers. You are worthy, you are holy, you are blessed, you are wanted, you are loved.
I love you and bless you with the promises of God. You are His and have been set apart from the world for His Holy purposes.
I bless you with God’s everlasting love, wisdom, peace, and joy. I bless you with sexual purity, marital fidelity, and many children of your own.
May God continue to keep His hand of favor and prosper you in all that you do, and may you serve our Lord Jesus Christ all the days of your life. Amen.
