Introduction

God wants us to succeed more than we desire to succeed in our businesses. Here is a 25-Day prayer journey for business success. Please pray for success in your business.
Let’s assume you have plans to start your own business, or you are a seasoned business person, or you just finished setting up your business. As a Christian, committing your business into God’s hands through prayer is indispensable to the success of that business.
Even as a business tycoon who has been in the field for a long time, if you fail to pray ruggedly for your business, you may likely end up not seeing the expected turnover. This is why we decided to write you with this 25-Day prayer journey for business success.

As Christians, we know that for no reason should we underestimate the power of prayer. We also know the enemy attacks everything belonging to children of God. So long you are doing a good and profitable thing that can make you prosper and bring glory to God, the enemy will attack it.
In John 10:10, the Bible tells us that the enemy came to steal, to kill and to destroy. If the enemy fails to destroy the business of a Christian, he will switch to attempt stealing from them. That’s when you hear people complain that their business is booming, but they could barely realize the capital they put into it, talk more of making profits. The enemy is likely stealing from them.
Businesses fail for so many reasons. One of them being that some people are fond of keeping God out of everything they do, likewise they put Him out of their business. It is not enough to have the wisdom, knowledge and capital to start a business. What matters the most is whether or not God is involved.

The holy Scriptures makes us understand that Believers should have the habit of committing everything concerning them into God’s hands.
In Proverbs 16:3, the Bible says, “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”With a closer look at this scripture, you should also be able to see that if one fails to commit their work to the Lord, all the good and mighty plans they have concerning that work may fail and fail woefully!
We don’t want to learn our lessons the hard way. Let us understand that if we fail to commit our work to the Lord, our plans may not as well be established. That being said, we should tread the path of the wise.
One of the wisest man in the Bible also makes us understand how important it is to let God take control of everything we do. In Proverbs 19:21, he said that “many are the plans in a person’s heart, but only the counsel of the Lord prevails.” Which means that, even with all the big and intelligent planning we do, one may still fail in their endeavors, if those plans don’t align with the counsel of the Lord. And how could we receive the counsel of the Lord, if we push God aside venture into business with our own capacity?
Let us be wise and not naive concerning the will of God for our lives. His will for us is to prosper us. The books of 3 John 1:2 and Jeremiah 29:11 makes it clear that God wants us to prosper. In our ministry, day-to-day activities, in our purpose, offices, business and all our life endeavors, the Lord has destined us for divine success. It would be a great disservice to ourselves, if we fail to let God take control of our businesses.
That being said, I trust that we now understand how important it is to pray ruggedly for our businesses.
Why You Should Pray For Your Business

What comes to mind when you consider the question “why should you pray for your business?”
We should pray a lot. We pray for ourselves, for family, for friends, for clients, for community and of course for our business. When we set out to pray, often we start a mental list of things to pray about; things we believe are needed; things we want to happen or not happen…
Do We Pray Rightly?

There are so many things we need to pray over that sometimes I believe my intent drifts to a place where it does not belong. Man’s very nature is a longing to be like God. From the original fall we stumble and seek to make our world by our own will. We take the bait just as Adam and Eve fell to the temptation of the serpent.
“For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths. Gen 3: 5-7.
Through the lens of our own desire, it is easy to see “good” in so many dangerous things:
“Good for food”/ Provision for my family
“Delight to the eyes” / Culturally popular
“Knowledge of good and evil”/ Pride in my success
Most of the potentially dangerous things in life are not dangerous in themselves; it’s what we let them do to us… These things become idols that blind us to what God wishes for us.
God cares for our every need and is pleased when we have done His good work. Often the fruits of that work will provide for my family, be viewed favorably by others or help me grow in wisdom.
But what do I do when I’m not sure that my family or others are going to see the greatness of my work? [note sarcasm]
If past performance is any indication of future outcomes, I tend to put a little more “me” in the mix; I grab that apple.
You want it done right, do it yourself. “Right?!?” I’m about to push away from my leaning on Father, Son and Holy Spirit as the guide for all my action and take matters into my own hands to get the results I want. What’s right about that?
How Does Scripture Tell us to Pray?

When Jesus instructed His disciples to pray, He offered the foundation for prayer and instruction to help us draw closer to Him as opposed to taking matters into our own hands.
“And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Pray then like this:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
-Mat 6: 7-13.
Jesus has provided detailed instruction on how you should pray for your business.
“Hallowed be your name” means we must always start with acknowledging the greatness of God and our deference to His authority.
“Your will be done” is the best thing we can ever hope for. Praying for the will of the Lord Almighty to be our greatest desire.
“Our daily bread” as gratitude for God’s providence in our basic needs.
“Forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors.” Do not hold debts over your brothers unless you feel up to covering your full debt paid by Jesus.
So Why Should I Pray for my Business?
The question can also be “what should I pray for my business?” As a business leader, your business is an extension of you. There is no Godly reason to have a different view of prayer for your business in contrast to personal prayer. We should be praying to align our business with God’s will. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are with us always to guide, correct, encourage and provide. Trust them with your business just like with your personal prayer.
I heard a preacher use the imagery of us being like a boat tossed about upon the waves of a rough sea. When the boat’s crew tosses a line to shore for mooring, are they seeking the shore to move toward them or draw closer to the safety of the port? We pray (the line to safe harbor) to draw ourselves or our business closer to the will of God, not as a vain attempt to sway the will of God to our own desires.
So pray for your business to be ever more aligned with what is glorifying to God and know that nothing is more valuable than that.
Build a Business Upon Your Christian Values

“What does it mean to build a business upon your Christian values?”
Christian small business people often wrestle with how to integrate their faith life into their business life. With nearly every endeavor, we encounter all sorts of people and circumstances that may seem to blur the lines between our Christian faith walk and the ways of the world.
What Does Scripture Say About the Ways of the World?
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
– 1 John 2:15-17
A principle I’ve found critical to grasp and embrace is that many things can be true at the same time. Meaning we often create conflict in our own mind that doesn’t really exist when making decisions.
In the context of faith in business, this conflict often appears as people feeling that making sound business decisions involving things like sales, profit, physical assets, leadership, etc are somehow contrary to their Christian faith. It’s as though they have to compartmentalize their faith life to outside of work hours and they do the same with faith where never the worlds collide.
Maintaining multiple lives each with separate compartments is difficult and stressful.
Applying the principle that many things can be true at the same time; it is true that God wants you to manage sales, profit and assets of your business well. God also wants you to remain focused upon Him as your provider and not have an unhealthy love for things of the world. It is the “love of money” that God despises; not you being a competent money manager who operates a successful business. Note in the passage from 1 John above, it is the “lust of it” that John warns against.
To build a successful business upon a foundation of your Christian values is not in conflict with sound Biblical principle unless you make it your idol and lust after success according to worldly terms. Two things can be true at the same time; you can glorify God in all that you do and lead a successful business by God’s measure and terms the world understands.
What are Christian Values in my Business?

But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
– 1 John 1:7
Do things for the right reasons, with the right motivation. Test your business life against whether you are “walking in the light as He is in the light.” Pray for wisdom and clarity in your business. Jesus was a carpenter and Paul a tent-maker; there is honor is having a trade and producing goods or services that people value enough to pay for them. Do all your work as you are working for the Lord; whatever your work may be.
“Walking in the light as He is in the light” according to 1 John is to love your brother and extend grace just as you have received love and grace.
He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him.
– 1 John 2:9-10
Many things can be true at the same time.
You can want to walk in the light; but, not actually act lovingly toward your brothers and sisters. Often we experience others walking in darkness in the workplace and are tempted to respond in kind. So it is common for us to desire that our faith be our foundation in all that we do while our behaviors might not reflect our desire to glorify God. What do we do?
Keep compassion for the people front and center in your decisions. Work to reconcile the impact of your decisions across both the human needs and the worldly business needs. Both needs are real at the same time. All business leaders face this challenge. Not all business leaders put the hard work in of balancing the human needs with the hard needs of the business.
The equation will not always work out neatly. Your call in building your business on a foundation of your Christian values is to always consider and pray on these things though your decisions and actions.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
– 1 John 1: 8-9
God already knows you are going to stumble; He knows you are not perfect; recognizing and confessing that you have both faith in Christ and have sinned are often both true. Let Christ carry your burdens at work by not falling for the self-deception that you should be perfect and not make mistakes.

When, not if, you make mistakes, bring them to Jesus in confession. Confess your prideful nature and let the Holy Spirit guide you to actions that glorify God. Pray in repentance and seek a healthy resolution.
What I often encounter in business leaders who are struggling with reconciling their faith and work lives is they have built themselves a prison of not being able to confess mistakes. That is a sin born out of pride. News flash: God’s not the only one who knows you’re not perfect… your work associates are quite aware.
Your Christian Faith is a Business Asset
There is no conflict between leading a successful business and your Christian faith. Many things can be true at the same time. You can live your faith 24 hours a day while you make sound business decisions that care for the people around you.
You will face challenges where there are consequences for people that at times don’t make you or others happy. Making everyone you meet happy is not consistent with the Christian life.

Walking in the light as He is in the light, praying to Him for our wisdom and confessing our sins to Him that He renews us by our faith is the Christian life. Pray over your decisions and business circumstances constantly that you test everything against the tenets of your faith. Guard yourself against worldly deception that might trick you into chasing idols at the expense of your brothers and sisters around you.
What better asset could there be than a leader who places the highest value on the hearts of their employees while assuring competent stewardship of the business overall?
“Christian” Business: What is it??
Your company may fall into this category. After all, you are a Christian and you own a business. You decided that your values should be incorporated into your work. So there you have it, Christian business?
Christian business is about allowing faith-based values to determine your decisions, structures and priorities within your work.
As a professional, there’s a lot of things that you are already doing. You have to take care of financials, marketing, personnel, customer service, growth paths and a variety of other business responsibilities. Christian business means allowing Biblical values to inform all of these activities that you’re already doing. And it’s kind of that simple and complicated at the same time.

Oftentimes you see businesses not quite getting this, and adding on new responsibilities to try and make their spirituality overt to outsiders looking in. They put scripture on the walls and be sure to have the prayer request box visible. There’s nothing wrong with these things! But I want to make an argument for a different kind of faithfulness.
What if faithfulness means more about your personal accountability to God in the decisions you’re making and structures you put into place in your company?
Financial Values

As a Christian in business, what if you sit down before you work on your financials and ask God genuinely to help you trust Him to provide for you and your company. Then, as you go through the tedious excel sheets and projections, you don’t allow the temptation to compromise or elevate your own comfort to lure you from ethical decision-making. As a Christian in business, this isn’t about getting ahead or simply making more money. It’s about honoring God. So when you do finally make it through all those numbers, what if you make a point to consider ways you can be generous. Because all of this isn’t really yours, after all, is it?
Marketing Values

There are endless opportunities to spend more dollars through a variety of avenues in the digital marketing world we’re navigating now. As a Christian in business, what if it looks like taking a little extra time to ensure that the products you’re buying, systems you’re using, and means for communicating aren’t compromising your values in some way. To ask a few questions about whether your marketing actions are at the expense of another person or business. To make sure that your communications are honest and forthcoming, not selective or half-truths to promote your business’s self-interest. Marketing as a Christian means trusting that God’s way is better, regardless of what best practices may say.
Management Values

As a Christian in business, what if living out your values means being a gracious, forgiving, kind, honest and intentional boss. Not continuing to allow for under-performance and other personnel issues, because that’s not loving either. But taking the time to communicate clearly about expectations, having honest but kind conversations about performance, and holding employees accountable to the values you have instilled from your own example.
The Better Way

All of this to say, what if being a Christian business owner has much more to do with your personal pursuit of God than you originally thought? This is a heavy burden. There are new levels of accountability for you. You must be willing to do the harder work of personal holiness and a deeper relationship with God, rather than simply pushing values to the front that your business doesn’t fully understand behind the scenes. It may seem a little daunting, but the Bible does promise that it is the better way.
We totally get that this is still a nuanced concept- unique to every person and business. Part of what makes it complicated is that there’s not a rule book necessarily. There’s no “do XYZ to honor God in your business” plan. So that’s what am here for. To help you discern what God’s best may be for the many different aspects of your business that you are working through.
Truth: The Christian Business Difference

As Christian business owners, we learn differently in scripture. Jesus tells us He is the Truth and the Way and the Light. He is the Word and the Word is the Truth. All throughout scripture, we are taught that if we are followers of Jesus, we will walk in truth.
“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” – 1 John 3:18
“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” 1 Corinthians 13:6
“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” – John 14:6
“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth.” – John 16:13
As Christians in business we cannot control the truth in others. It is a shame that the Bible’s truth is not universal. It isn’t. But as a Christian we are not victims.
What can we do? How does a Christian in business navigate in a world of grey?
We can only control ourselves. We know the truth and if we are followers of Jesus, we want to walk in truth because we love Him. Will we do it perfectly? Not likely. But, we can:
- Try our best to live up to all commitments we make…to employees, to vendors, to customers.
- Pray for wisdom and discernment when dealing with others.
- Look for people who also follow Jesus, because we will know they are at least trying.
- Strive to be light in a dark world.
Don’t worry, I know it seems like a big commitment. I know, like me, you already try. And I know, also like me, you will miss sometimes.
Our Faith is a Strength in Business

But the power to be more like Jesus is not a human power. It is not something we can do on our own. The good news is that we don’t have to. By the power of Jesus through the Holy Spirit, we can do better.
We can try to treat others as we would want to be treated. We can work to make sure our yes is yes and our no is no. We can have patience with others who we know are also trying.
A big myth in the business world is that to be successful you must check your faith at the door. I don’t believe that. Actually, our faith is a strength. If we lower ourselves to the world’s standards, we will be following a moving truth (no such thing). We will never know what is right and our standards and ethics will continue to be lowered.
We have the power of truth on our side.
We can do our best to be small businesses built on a foundation of our Christian values. We can try to be like a “city on a hill” to other Christians in business. We can encourage them that God does care about their business and that following Him in all of life, including our business is the only way!
Three Ways To Let Your Faith Drive Your Business:

1. Pray over your whole business.
As obvious as this action is, too often we take it for granted. The emphasis here is “the whole business.” Start with praying for wisdom, humility and discernment in self-reflection on your leadership.
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies – in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.”
– 1 Peter 4:10-11
Ask how your witness is reflected through your leadership. What tangible things can you do use your gifts to serve your brothers and sisters through the management of your business? How is your witness reflected in your strategic direction?
“Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.”
– Proverbs 29:18
It is critical to pray over your leadership and ask the Spirit to guide you and your business.
2. Pray over how you are serving your employees.

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.”
– 1 Corinthians 12:4-6
The most concrete evidence of honoring the value of your employees is how you invest in Performance Management and Employee Development.
The hustle and bustle of running a business can act to push robust employee reviews or development plans down on the priority list. It is so tempting to focus on the hot customer issue; and there is always a hot issue. You need to invest in recognizing the “varieties of gifts” amongst your team and help them develop to best utilize those gifts.
Another area to consider is your personal relationship with your staff as individuals. Showing love for people who work with or for you, includes having a relationship where you care about and for one another. It’s harder to show love for people in your life when you don’t know them.
3. Pray over how your business is a witness to your customers.

“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.”
– Luke 16:10
Consider the fundamentals of what your business is doing and how it represents your Witness of Faith. Always be testing your business mission against your business actuals.
Is our quality where it should be?
Are our customers delighted to work with us?
Is our business plan sustainable?
Do our internal and external customers see us as having high integrity?
I’m an advocate for growing your business through excellent execution. Of course the financials must work for the business to be sustainable, in addition the quality of your products and service should represent your character.
Cutting corners or delivering sub-par quality can be akin to “being dishonest in a very little.”
Pray on how you can lead your business to be faithful in all things and demonstrate integrity to its’ core for your customers.
The new year is under way and we are all building our momentum. Let your Faith be an asset that drives results for your business.
Praying over the key elements of your business will move you to lead in such a way as to glorify God in your business by letting your Faith drive your business for success… to lead a business that you are pleased to see as a big part of the Witness of Your Faith.
The Biblical Way to Handle Conflict: Reconciling Our Relationships

To reconcile can be defined in many ways. It means to settle or bring into harmony, to “make good again”, and it even means to repair.
Because of the sin that entered the world long ago our relationship with God and our relationships with people are not perfect. As Christians, we seek to live peaceably with all, in such a way that glorifies our Father in Heaven. Unfortunately, this isn’t typically the case. Luckily, the Bible lays out clear guidelines on how to reconcile when conflict arises.
1) Start with Prayer
As in all things, it is best to start with prayer. Before you react with words, pray for wisdom. Philippians 4:6 says, “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” Pray for compassion when it is hard to be empathetic. Pray for discernment when the conflict is confusing. Pray for patience when it is hard to bear with one another.
2) Examine Your Contribution to the Conflict
Have you ever heard of the parable of The Log and The Speck?
Matthew 7:3-5:
“Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
What is your role in the conflict? Did you have false expectations? Did you communicate clearly? Maybe your attitude was unkind? We cannot confront the person we are in disagreement with before we confront ourselves. Humbly accept your own part in the conflict and work towards a peaceful resolution. Do not be too proud to admit fault.
3) Confront the Problem
Here are some helpful ways to communicate in a healthy way:
- Start with a humble approach by seeking forgiveness for your own short-coming.
- Listen to their side of the story. Their perspective also matters.
- Repeat back what is said. Sometimes others have a hard time putting into words their thoughts or feelings and repeating what is said back can help them communicate what they truly want to say.
- Explain your perspective because your perspective also has value.
- Be willing to compromise.
- Pursue peace by forgiving and forgetting. Bringing up past conflicts in future conflicts will hurt not help.
4) What to Do if a Peaceful Agreement Cannot Be Reached
Matthew 18:15-17:
“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. 16 But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. 17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.”
If a peaceful reconcile cannot be reached the next thing to do is bring in an authority. If this was an issue in the church, bring it to an elder or discipler that knows both of you well. If in the workplace, bring in a supervisor. If in the family, seek an older relative you both trust. If in the end no agreement can be reached, then trust in the Lord and pray.
Why Even Bother Reconciling our Relationships?

God reconciled the world to himself (2 Corinthians 5:18). It took place at the cross through the death of Christ. The death of Jesus made us no longer sinners & granted us forgiveness for the greatest conflict: us being born enemies of God (Romans 3:23, 6:23). Matthew 5:23-24 says, “So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go. First, be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.” Reconciliation is something done by the one who offers it; it is not just something that happens to strangers. In Christ, we are fellow citizens and members of the same heavenly kingdom. It is the cross of Christ that reconciles us all.
2 Corinthians 5:18-25:
“All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

Daily Prayer for the Success of your Business:

Father, Your Word says that I am a partaker of the inheritance and treasures of heaven. You have delivered me out of the authority of darkness and translated me into the Kingdom of Your dear Son. Father, where Your Word is there is light and, also, understanding. Your Word does not return to You void but always accomplishes what it is sent to do. I am a joint-heir with Jesus; and as Your son/daughter, I accept that the communication of my faith is effectual by the acknowledging of every good work that is in me in Christ Jesus.
Father, I commit my works (the plans and cares of my business) to You, entrust them wholly to You. Since You are effectually at work in me, You cause my thoughts to become agreeable with Your will, so that my business plans shall be established and succeed. In the name of Jesus, I submit to every kind of wisdom, practical insight, and prudence, which You have lavished upon me in accordance with the riches and generosity of Your gracious favor.
Father, I affirm that I obey Your Word by making an honest living with my own hands, so that I may be able to give to those in need. In Your strength and according to Your grace, I provide for myself and my own family. Thank You, Father, for making all grace, every favor and earthly blessing, come to me in abundance that I, having all sufficiency, may abound to every good work.
Father, thank You for the ministering spirits that You have assigned to go forth to bring in consumers. Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.” In His name my light shall so shine before all men that they may see my good works glorifying You, my Heavenly Father.
Thank You for the grace to remain diligent in seeking knowledge and skill in areas where I am inexperienced. I ask You for wisdom and the ability to understand righteousness, justice, and fair dealing in every area and relationship. I affirm that I am faithful and committed to Your Word. My life and business are founded upon its principles.
Father, thank You for the success of my business!

Lord Jesus, help me get from under this slavery to debt. I confess I have not always managed my money well, and some of this debt is my fault. Therefore, I turn to You right now and ask for Your help, that You will lead me out of this bondage to debt.

Jesus, the debt burden is weighing on me, stressing me out, and affecting my life negatively. So I come to You by faith and lay the burden of this right here, at Your feet, trusting You to take the weight of it and help me deal with it.
