Dear Lord,

Bless every mother and every grandmother with the finest of your spiritual blessings today. Confirm in her heart and spirit the work of her hands and the love that she has so freely given to those children under Your care. Validate her worth daily so she has no reason to doubt whether she is loved, valued, and cherished in the eyes of her Heavenly Father.

Create in her a deep sense of your protection and trust, so that worry and fear will disappear as she places her loved ones into Your care. Let her know that every prayer she has prayed and every encouraging word she has spoken on behalf of her children/grandchildren has been transformed into sweet, fragrant offerings before Your throne.

Whisper deep within her spirit the sweet words she longs to hear from You—that nothing can ever separate her from Your love. Help her to nestle daily into the promises of Your Word, standing with faith on the things You declare are true. Let her know that You reward faithfulness, but that true success doesn’t lie in her accomplishments or accolades. Let her rest in the knowledge that she has done all she can—and that she and those she loves—truly belong to you. Bless her with a servant spirit so she can teach her own the joy of hearing one day, “Well done!”

Remove any guilt, false or real, and replace them with Your amazing grace and forgiveness. Help her see her children or grandchildren through Your eyes, knowing that in Your hands is the safest place they can ever be. Calm every doubt, and strengthen her confidence in the Only One who can bring good out of any situation.

Teach her that she cannot meet every need of her child’s life, but that You can. Give her wisdom and guidance to train those precious children in Your path, and then to leave the results to You, Lord. Help her to love without limitations, to pray without ceasing, and to live without regrets. Bless her with such a sweet dependency on You that she will acknowledge her inadequacies, yet recognize and accept Your reward of praise—and Your sense of pleasure in having her as Your own beloved child.

Where prayers may still seem unanswered, and dreams are not yet realized, open her eyes to see beyond this world to a Hope that never disappoints, and to a Father who will never leave or abandon her. Give her the courage to persevere even in the most difficult moments of her life. Bless her with honesty, integrity, and a playfulness that shows her children she is human, yet unswerving in her desire to know You.

Let her joy be contagious; let her passion be pure, and let her life overflow with all the blessings she deserves—on special days, and on every day of her life.

In Jesus’s name, Amen

Introduction

Mothers, Let’s face it, motherhood is hard! Whether your child was just born or is soon-to-be married, parenting and guiding children is a life-long task. Whether you’re second guessing your parenting skills and need a boost of encouragement, or simply looking to read up on scripture about family, we’ve handpicked Bible verses about mothers to lift your spirits. There are a lot of things God says about mothers: They are blessed, strong lionesses, full of wisdom. Read through our curated selection of Bible quotes to find relevant Bible verses for moms. We highlight everything from her strength and honor in Proverbs 31:25 to her open heart in John 19:26, including verses from both the Old and New Testaments.

Some of our favorites are the Bible verses about a mother’s love, such as 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, which notes what love is and is not, and John 16:21, which describes the joy of seeing your child for the first time.

The Power of a Praying Mother

If you follow the greatest men of God back to their beginnings, you will often find yourself in a hidden closet or lonely pew, where a mother kneels to pray. Look behind Augustine, and you will find Monica. Look behind Spurgeon, and you will find Eliza. Look behind Hudson Taylor, and you will find Amelia. And look at each of these mothers, and you will find earnest prayer. Those who know their Bibles should hardly be surprised. Like the star the wise men saw, the stories of God’s redemptive movements often lead us to a home where a woman, hidden from the great ones of the earth, caresses a heel that will one day crush a serpent. In the prayers of a mother, awakenings are born and peoples won, idols are toppled and devils undone, dry bones are raised and prodigals rescued.

Hannah’s Prayer

Like Hagar before her, Peninnah can’t help pointing the finger at Hannah’s empty womb: “[Hannah’s] rival used to provoke her grievously to irritate her, because the Lord had closed her womb. So, it went on year by year” (1 Samuel 1:6–7). But unlike Sarah before her, Hannah turns to God instead of turning against Peninnah.

Listen to the simple prayer of a suffering woman, longing for an open womb:

O Lord of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch his head. (1 Samuel 1:11)

We know the rest of the story. The Lord would hear Hannah and give her a son. And her son, Samuel, would establish Israel’s kingdom (1 Samuel 16:10–13), inaugurate the nation’s prophetic line (Acts 3:24; 13:20), and gain a standing beside Moses as a mediator of God’s people

Through prayer, Hannah’s once-barren womb bore a son to rescue Israel.

What might mothers learn from Hannah’s prayer today?

1. Anguish can be a good teacher.

Years of infertility, joined with Peninnah’s mockery, had finally broken the dam of Hannah’s sorrow. The pain of hope deferred flooded her heart, and the flood could not be hidden. “Hannah wept and would not eat. . .. She was deeply distressed” (1 Samuel 1:7, 10).

Yet, as so often happens, Hannah’s tears became a trail that led her to her knees. “After they had eaten and drunk in Shiloh, Hannah rose . . . and prayed to the Lord and wept bitterly” (1 Samuel 1:9–10). We don’t know what Hannah’s prayer life was like before this moment. But here, at least, anguish became her best teacher.

In a world as broken as ours, anguish hems a mother in, behind and before. Some, like Hannah, feel the peculiar agony of wished-for motherhood. Others, the pain of pregnancy and childbirth itself. And still others, the sorrow of a child who has not yet been born again. What Augustine once said of his mother holds true for many:

She wept and wailed, and these cries of pain revealed what there was left of Eve in her, as in anguish she sought the son whom in anguish she had brought to birth. (Confessions, 5.8.15)

2. God delights in open hands.

Two words in Hannah’s prayer rise to the surface through repetition: Lord (twice) and its counterpart, servant (three times). In her anguish, she does not forget that God is her Lord, high and wise above her, nor that she is his servant, bound to do his will. The famous words of Mary over a millennium later “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord” (Luke 1:38) are an echo of Hannah’s.

We should hesitate, of course, before drawing a straight line between a mother’s heart and how God answers her prayers. Some mothers pray with Hannah-like surrender, and still their wombs stay empty, or their children keep walking to the far country. Hannah’s story does teach us, however, that God loves to put gifts in open hands. He delights when a mother, welling up with maternal affection, wells up still more with desire for Christ and his kingdom.

In Hannah’s case, her openhanded motherhood allowed Samuel to spend his days at the temple, where, the narrator tells us, “He worshiped the Lord” (1 Samuel 1:28). May God be pleased to do the same for many mothers’ sons.

3. A mother’s prayers can shake the world.

The anguished prayer of 1 Samuel 1:11 is not the only prayer we hear from Hannah. When she brings her freshly weaned son to the temple, she prays again, this time soaring with praise (1 Samuel 2:1–10). And as we listen, we quickly realize that the story of Hannah and Samuel reaches far beyond the four walls of a happy home.

Hannah, carried along by the Spirit, finds herself caught up in something far greater than her own domestic hopes: under God, her son would deliver Israel from its oppressors and establish a kingdom that one day would cover the earth. Hannah had simply prayed for a son, but in return, God answered far bigger than she asked. And so, he still does.

Behind Every Great Man is a Praying Mother

The Bible shares an important illustration of the influence of godly mother through the life of Timothy. Little is known about his mother, but the brief insights shared offer powerful principles for today.

A Praying Mother Has Sincere Faith

Paul wrote to Timothy, “I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also” (2 Timothy 1:5). The sincere faith Timothy experienced was an extension of being raised by a godly mother named Eunice and a godly grandmother named Lois. Their influence led to his openness to the good news of Jesus under the teaching of the apostle Paul.

A Praying Mother Cares for Her Family Despite Circumstances

We know little about Lois, the mother of Timothy. However, it was clear her husband was a Greek Gentile, while she was a Jew (Acts 16:1). This mixed marriage would have presented several challenges for marriage and raising children. Despite these and other difficulties, the faith of Lois did not end nor fade. When the apostle Paul spoke of her faith during Timothy’s adult years, she was still known for her faithful devotion to God.

A Praying Mother Connects Her Child with Godly Influences

In Acts 16:2, we are told, “The believers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him [Timothy].” Lois both loved God and helped Timothy by connecting him with other godly influences in the early church. A praying mother realizes that raising godly children takes a team—God, the mother, the child, and other godly men and women within the body of Christ. This is especially true if the father is absent or is not a believer, as may have been the case with Timothy. A mother can serve as a godly influence, yet must also work together with other believers who will invest in her child’s life.

A Praying Mother Prepares Her Child to Serve God

Fourth, a godly mother raises a child to release her child. Timothy was a young adult by the time Paul visited his town in Acts 16. Paul selected him as part of his missionary team that would take them throughout parts of Europe to share the good news of Jesus and begin new churches. Some mothers are reluctant to either prepare their children for ministry or to release them to do so. While no details are recorded, we only see that when the time was right, Timothy left everything behind, including his mother, to serve the Lord. Her sincere faith had helped prepare him for a time when he would move beyond home to make a difference in the lives of others.

We can observe two actions points in these words. First, take time to thank and honor your mother for her prayers and godly influence in your life. Let her know the time invested in you has not been wasted, but has helped you to live in better ways. Second, for mothers, remember the significant value you add to your child through your prayers and actions. You are the first and often the most influential person in your child’s life. This is both a tremendous responsibility and blessing. Continue to pray, to serve, and to enjoy every moment in your wonderful role as a mother.

Reasons a Praying Mom has Eternal Impact

A mother’s plate is full, sometimes too full.  With all of the things that are pressing for your attention – is there room for prayer.  Dear mama, let me share with you 5 compelling reasons why you need to be a praying mom.

  1. You need to be a Praying Mom so that You Can be a Better Christian

Your primary identity is not as a mom.  Being a mom is a pretty awesome thing, but that is not the most impressive thing about you.  The most important part of your identity is as a child of God.  First and foremost, you are the daughter of the King.

  • You need to be Praying Mama so that You can Be a Better Mom

Mothering is emotionally, spiritually, and physically hard work.  At the end of the day, you are worn out.  To be a better mom, you need supernatural help to fill your cup.  Prayer is the special time that you can spend with God and get what you need to love others better.

  • You need to be Praying Mother so that You can Be a Better Evangelist

What is an Evangelist? We usually think of an evangelist as someone charismatic with an amazing ability to speak to crowds.

The reality is that anyone who shares the gospel is doing the work of an evangelist.  Yes, some have the spiritual gift, but all Christians are called to share the good news of Jesus Christ. This evangelistic calling includes you too, Mom! God has given you the mission field of your home to share the good news. Your number one responsibility as a parent is to share the good news of Jesus Christ with your kids.

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

  • You need to be Praying Mom so that You can teach your kids to pray

If you want your kids to love to pray, you need to be a praying mom.  Your children need to see you praying.  They need you to lead them in prayer and to cultivate a lifestyle of prayer in your home.  In the life of prayer, you just have to be the lead learner.  As you grow in your prayer life, you share that love and your learning with your family.

“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” 3 John 1:4

  • You need to be Praying Mother so that You can pray for your children’s salvation

The Devil would like for mothers to lose sight of that all-powerful goal, and to focus on all of the other things that can take our energy and attention.  Yet, this is the most crucial task of faithful motherhood – that our children would walk with the Lord. We can’t force our children to love Jesus.  We can’t save them.  Salvation is the work of the Holy Spirit. However, what you can do as mothers is to pray for their salvation.  Pray every day without fail. Starting your day praying for the salvation of your children serves a reminder to you of the priorities of your day.

Grand Mothers

“I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice? I am persuaded, now lives in you also” (II Timothy 1:5)

If Timothy’s grandmother Lois had not been faithful in passing on her faith to her daughter Eunice and grandson Timothy, we would not have the books, I and II Timothy in the Bible today. Their example is an excellent generational example of the importance of passing on the faith to future generations. Lois is our forerunner who modeled grand mothering for us.

Grandmother’s Role

The role of godly grandparents is to communicate their faith in Jesus Christ and pray diligently for their grandchildren. We are also to tell future generations how God has walked with us and demonstrated his mighty works in our lives. God is waiting for us to ask Him for opportunities if we are overwhelmed with how to be a godly influence on your grandchildren. God has given us the responsibility to set a positive example. We do affect our grandchildren one way or another, positively or negatively.

In Proverbs 27:19, we read, “As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person” (NLT). What does the reflection of our “real person” reflect? When we are committed to read and meditate on God’s Word, we will reflect a life transformed into his image. As we invest in our walk with the Lord, we are spiritually investing in the lives of our grandchildren by modeling a godly example. As spiritual role models, we can demonstrate the reality of our faith by walking with God through both the storms and sunny days of our lives.

Grandmother’s Prayers

Grandmothers love to give gifts to their grandchildren, however, the most significant and most lasting gift they can give them is to be their prayer intercessor, affecting and imprinting their generation with God’s faithfulness. The material things they leave their grandchildren are temporary; however, their prayers and examples can make a significant impact on them for a lifetime. Their most significant blessings will come when they see God answering their prayers in their lives, and get to see the results. Dear grandmothers, do your grandchildren see authenticity and sincerity about you in your relationship with God? What a blessing it would be for you to hear your grandchildren say, “I want to have a relationship with the Lord like my grandmother modeled for me.” I hope you can say in the years to come, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children and grandchildren are walking in the truth” (3 John 1:4). Ask yourself:

  • What kind of memories will my grandchildren have of me when I pass away?
  • Is my walk with the Lord what I want to be reflected in the lives of my grandchildren?
  • Do I want my grandchildren to imitate my spiritual life?
  • Will they want my Jesus?
  • Will my love for God keep on living through my grandchildren, even after I am deceased?

Further reflection

Due honor and respect should be given to our grandmothers. They may seem weak and fragile with old age, but their life is a testament to their courageous and formidable faith in this journey called life. They have experienced the ups and downs of their tumultuous life. Their thoughts may speak of wisdom only obtained through lived experience. The wrinkles on their faces are the scars they carry surpassing the painful and joyous moments in life. Our grandmothers lived decades before us, and it is only fitting that we look after and listen to them for advice, encouragement, and inspiration. Honoring them would be the same as honoring God, who is the great Father of the whole humanity.

May we always continue to pray for our grandmothers. Let the words of the Apostle Paul to Timothy resound in our prayers for them: to become a lighthouse of piety and devotion to God. Allow the examples of the saints, like Saint Anne, to inspire them to become a loving and devout grandmother. Let Saint Anne be our companion in praying for them. Serving and loving one’s children and grandchildren is the best way to build a family and invest in forming a loving and God-fearing generation. Our grandmother’s influence is a great impact and a strong legacy in building our identity and in our communal and political life.

Daily Prayers

Prayer 1

Heavenly Father, as your beloved child, I know that You want me to prosper in everything that I do, and You want me to stay in good health. Lord, I come to You, asking You to bless me with what You already want for me. Lord, I need long life that I may enjoy the fruit of my labor, see my children and teach them more about You. I need long life that I may enjoy the joy that comes with grand parenting, and old age. Lord, many do not have this privilege, and I ask You to make me privileged today. Bless me with long life, and a long life filled with bliss, fulfillment, accomplishment and blessings. Bless my long life with good health and sound mind. Lord, just as my soul prospers, may my body prosper too. May my finance prosper too. May everybody I know and I love prosper too because it is Your will for us all. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Prayer 2

Father LORD, I thank You for keeping me alive to this day. I thank You for Your mercies and faithfulness.

I thank You for Your Love and kindness.

I thank You because You are the only One who can give long life to anyone. No other person can do that, but You, O LORD.

Thank you for the promise of long life to those who obey you.

I praise and magnify Your name, this day, and forever, in Jesus name

Everlasting Father, I commit the totality of my life into Your hand; Help me by the Holy Spirit to walk in Your ways and to keep Your commandments; engrave Your fear me every day, for it is written that the fear of the LORD prolongs days (Prov. 10:27).

Holy Spirit, please empower me on a daily basis to obey and serve God, so that I may spend my days in prosperity and my years in joy and strength (Job 36:11).

Holy Spirit, plant the laws and commandments of God in my heart and help me never to forget them, and may they lengthen my days and cause me to dwell in peace and security (Proverbs 3:1-2).

I declare this day, according to the WORD of God, that I shall not die but live and continue to declare the goodness of God (Psalm 118:17).

I shall fulfill the number of my years. I shall live to eat the fruit of my labor, for I shall not labor for another to enjoy (ISAIAH 65:23).

The LORD God Almighty shall satisfy me with long life and under His wings shall I find refuge all the days of my life. In Jesus name. Amen

Day 1: For my Grandma who is not Well

Dear God, I just want to bring my precious Grandma to You as she is quite sick and I just ask Lord, that You would touch her with Your healing hands and restore her to full health and strength. Lord, I also know that she is getting older and her health has been deteriorating quite rapidly for a while. Father, I know that our times are in Your hands and for everything there is a season, and I know Lord, that life does not continue indefinitely, nevertheless I do pray that she may be restored to good health. Be with her Lord in her sickness, and may she feel Your presence with her. Provide for all her needs I pray, and I ask Lord that the doctors would identify the right medicines to help speed her recovery. Keep her close to You in Your loving arms, and may she find her rest in You especially during this period of sickness. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Day 2: Prayer of Thanksgiving for my Grandmother

God, you are perfect in all your ways and one way specifically you have been good in my life is by giving me, my grandmother. In your perfect timing and sovereignty, you allowed my grandmother to be mine. Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases. (Psalm 115:3 ESV) God, I thank you for going before my grandmother throughout her life. You knew her weakness and her strengths. You redeemed her from the sin we all have and have declared she is righteous. Your love is so gracious to her.  And I thank you that she does not keep that love to herself but instead she shares it with anyone who will listen, especially her grandchildren. She shares how Jesus came down to this earth and paid my debt. She didn’t hold back the details of your death and the blood that was spilled for me. She showed me his love but also corrected my sin, showing me always the grace of you, my king. My grandmother showed me in mighty ways how you fight for me. She was honest and bold. I know she could have not done this unless you first loved her. Thank you for loving her in this mighty way. It is your love that has concurred the sin in my grandmother’s life and set her free. I thank you for choosing her to be your own. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Day 3: Healing Prayer for my Grandmother

God, you are all powerful and I pray that you extend your power now to heal my grandmother. You have numbered each of our days and I ask that if it is your will you heal my grandmother, and give her more days here on this Earth.  God, I pray that as we wait for your healing we humbly walk with you. Help my grandmother to lean into your love and strength, especially when she feels like she has none. Father, as my grandmother battles this sickness, I ask that you not only heal her body but that you heal her soul. Help her to release any earthly treasures she may be clinging to. Allow her to surrender the pride and selfishness we all struggle with. Help her turn to you with a humbled heart. God, you alone can heal my grandmother. I thank you for the common grace that you extend through the doctors that are taking care of my grandmother. I pray that you heal her through the work that they are doing. However, there is always a limitation to that so I pray that you heal her with your power, I pray for a miracle. Father, I know that your will is not always to heal our bodies on this earth. For all of us, death is certain. God, if my grandmother’s time on this earth is coming to an end, I pray that she is found to be righteous before you. For I know that you have promised restored and glorified bodies for all those who belong to you. God, please heal my grandmother. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Day 4: Prayers for Troubled Grandmother

God, it seems like my grandmother is always troubled about one thing or another. She is consumed by worry and the present struggles of this world. Will you help her to turn her eyes to you? God, I know you are the true redeemer and you can help my grandmother with her troubles. Many times our troubles come from an area where we are not trusting in you, so I ask that you hold her close and draw her back to trust in you. Your love is so sure. God, when my grandmother is tempted to trust in the things of this world to comfort her, help her instead to turn her eyes to you. Let the things of this world and the things troubling her stay away as she focuses on what you have done and promise to do. When the troubles in her life seem to overwhelm her and she begins to cry. When the troubles seem to make her whole life seem so dark. When the valley she is in seems to be so long. Give her your peace. Allow her to experience the peace that flows from heaven. God, I know you will even use this time of trouble in her life to help her grow closer to you. Continue to prepare her for future troubles by walking through this present one with her. Help her to learn of your might and strength as you complete this work in her. Father, if my grandmother is troubled because her mind is failing will you simply hold her close and allow the troubles that consume her mind to drift away. God, I praise you that you have overcome this world. You have overcome all the troubles my grandmother will ever face. Help her to rest in your peace today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Day 5: Prayers for Grandmother’s Salvation

God, I pray for my grandmother’s salvation. You know her heart. God, there is no fruit in her life of being in a relationship with you. There is no evidence that she has been walking with you or knows you. She is deceived by the devil and believes that she is okay, but I plead with you to save her. You are the only one that can save us from the depths of our sins, from the evil one, and from death. God, give me the confidence to share the Gospel with my grandmother. Give me the words to speak into her life. Open her eyes to see her desperate need for you. Give her the humility to repent of her self-sufficient ways and to trust you with her life. As I share you with her I pray that you help her to understand. Clear her mind of all misconceptions and allow her to surrender to you. The only true savior. I pray this in Jesus’ name. It is such a powerful name and I trust in it fully to accomplish God’s will. Amen.

God, my grandmother is nearing the end of their life. I praise you for calling her to yourself. The promise of eternity with you, for all those who have faith, is a comfort I cling to in these last days. I pray that my loved one finishes strong. God, you have numbered my grandmother’s days. I want to thank you that you have loved her for each one of those days. Even when she did not think about you are love you the way she should have you never left her side.

Since his days are determined, and the number of his months is with you, and you have appointed his limits that he cannot pass, (Job 14:5 ESV) Father God, please even in these last days equip my loved one for your redemptive work. Giver her strength to continue to show love and patients to those around her. I pray that you take away any sense of fear but only fill her with hope. God, there are many other good things I could pray for as my loved one nears death. I thank you for hearing each of these prayers. Somehow my mom has to keep up with planning and making a nutritious meal, working to take care of us kids, and keeping up with the necessary details of our lives. She has to show up to support us, endure tantrums and so much more. I pray that you give my mother the strength to do all these and even more of her personal plans. Clothe her with your infallible strength as she fulfills the calling of raising the children you have entrusted in her hands. She will not fall, fail, or break down because you are with her. She is healed from the crown of her head to the sole of her feet. She is thoroughly healed with no trace of the disease left in her. Please make her whole just as you made the woman of the issue of blood whole in the bible. I completely trust in your love and in your power. I know that you desire that she will be in good health. Day 9: A Prayer for Tired Mums

Heavenly Father, I lift up mom. I know that her soul longs after You. I know that she can only flourish when she seeks after You with her whole heart but right now, she’s battle-weary and bone tired. She feels like she is on the losing end of the battle she’s facing. Lord Jesus, help her seek you in the mundane moments and turn those moments of seeking into glory-filled moments of delight. Touch her spirit with your renewing hand. Being a mom is physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting at times. Give her rest that comes from surrendering to You. Lead her beside still waters. Help her to be still and know that You are her God, and You will fight for her. Revive her spirit that comes from the touch of Your Holy Spirit. Help her weary bones come to life again. In Jesus’s Name. Amen.

Day 10: A Prayer for a Stressed Out Mum

“May you have clarity of thought and a morsel of sanity today. May you know that His grace is enough. For every season, every tantrum, every question, every failure. It is enough. Always. May you know that you are wildly loved by your Father, just as you are. Not because of what you accomplished today, or didn’t. Or how you feel about God at this moment, or whether you complained, or spent time reading your bible, or messed up in the worst way, or celebrated a victory. He adores you, just because. And with this knowledge, may you feel empowered to love your children the same way. The way God asks you to, the way your kids deserve, and the way you want to.

May you feel equipped to tackle every challenge, every situation, and every day with courage and joy even if you have to “start over” 10 times by 9 a.m. May excitement fill your heart every morning for all that the day can be. Your children are your treasure, and this day is a gift– may you fully embrace it all. May you lay your head down at night with a heart that is bursting and memories too plentiful to count. May you know unspeakable joy at the end of the day. May you recognize that though these days are so (so, so, so, so) long, the years are short. They are a breath. And as you exhale yours in the darkness of the night, may your cup overflow with thanksgiving. May your dreams be sweet and your sleep be restful. Sleep well, Momma, knowing that the work you are doing is good, and your Father is smiling on you.”

Day 11: Army Mom’s Prayer for her Sick Child

Heavenly Father, how I thank You for the joy I have found in this son that You gave me, and how quickly the years have passed. and he has grown into a man and a soldier. I thank You for the joy I have had as I have watched him grow from his babyhood and infant years through his teenage time to manhood – and Lord my thoughts are somewhat divided as I realize that he is now in the services – a man called to serve his country and fellowman in this important and uncertain military position. Lord, I give him into Your hands and pray that You would lead and guide him, protect and support him as he takes up his position as a soldier and protector of this green and pleasant land of ours. Father I know that he has not always been as close to You as I would have liked, but I pray that You would use this time in the army as a opportunity to draw him back to Yourself and renew his commitment to You. I pray that he may grow in grace and in a knowledge of Jesus, knowing that all who are in Christ have nothing to fear in this current evil world – for we are one in Christ. Into Your hands I commit my son in Jesus name.  Amen

Day 14: Divorced Mother’s Prayer

Lord, it’s morning now and it has come too soon.  I’m so tired.  Too tired to face another day or another responsibility.  But there are children in bed who need my help to get ready for school.  Yes, I know they are my responsibility. Jesus, when I got married, I never dreamed that our love would die, that divorce was possible.  But he is gone and I’m a single parent with this awesome task of rearing children.  It overwhelms me some days, and today is one of those days.  I need Your help! There is so much going on in their lives. Lord, please help me keep up. Dear Jesus, I’ll really need for You to be there; to sit beside me.  I’ve never faced a divorce settlement…the coldness of a courtroom, the finality of that which I thought would never die.  Please Lord, come sit with me.

Day 15: For a Widowed Mum

Father God,

I lift the precious moms up to you who are carrying not only babies and children in their arms, but grief in their hearts—their own grief as well as the grief of their children. Her days are long and hard. She is exhausted physically and emotionally. Please bring friends and family to walk alongside of her in practical ways. You promise to assist those who have no help and bless those who bless the widow (Deuteronomy 14:29). Enlist prayer warriors to lift her needs to you. Thank you that you promise to hear her cry. You capture her tears in a bottle and record each one in a book (Psalm 56:8).

Show this precious mom how to build a support system of mentors and counselors and send these important people to her side. May they speak truth into her life. Use them to encourage her with a timely word. Thank you for the promise that you are a Father to the fatherless and Defender of the widow (Psalm 68:5). Let her feel your protection and give her faith to trust that you will be faithful to keep your promises. Teach this mom your ways and let her feel your embrace. Give her strength to direct her children to you. She needs wisdom, discernment, and understanding. Please grant this to her in liberal amounts. Thank you for the promise in Isaiah 54:13 that declares “all your children will be taught of the Lord and great will be their peace.” Please bring peace to their home.

The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but you give life abundant. Thank you for using what is meant for evil for our good and your glory (Genesis 50:20). Glorify yourself through this precious family. Hold them close to you. Heal their broken hearts and bind up their wounds (Psalm 147:3). Remind them that you will bring fruit from the land of suffering (Genesis 41:52), and they will see the goodness of the Lord in their lives (Psalm 27:13). Lord, you promise to plead the case of the widow and fatherless for “their redeemer is strong” Proverbs 23:10). “Thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter of mine head.” (Psalm 3:3-5). Allow this widowed mom to sleep giving rest in her soul. May she know that you are sustaining her. Comfort her so that she may one day comfort others as she has been comforted (2 Corinthians 1:3-5).

Thank you for interceding on her behalf. Thank you for hearing our prayers and answering our cries.

In Jesus name, Amen.

Day 16: Prayer for a Single Mum of Teenagers

Dear Lord,

Today, I lift up any moms raising teenagers without a dad. These years often bring challenges as children move toward independence. Please give these moms the wisdom they need to release their children into adulthood. Would you also provide guardrails during this time. Be with her as she entrusts them into your care, knowing You love them more than she can comprehend. For the fatherless teenage sons, bring men to guide them during this critical season. When these boys test the boundaries, bring support, providing the necessary advocacy and affirmation both mom and son need. For the teenage daughters, provide role models and spouses who will model a godly life and give counsel when needed. It is so easy for them to look for love in all the wrong places. Remind them in tangible ways of Your love for them. Please give her your strength when she is weak. Bring the support that she needs. Thank you for the promise that you are a Father to the fatherless.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

Day 20: Prayer for a Mother to Small Children

Jesus, please renew her strength for the tasks ahead of her today. Give her wisdom, patience, and courage. Her job is the hardest one in the world. And when the crying, the endless chaos, the never-ending demand of caring for her small children pushes her to the breaking point and she loses her patience, please Jesus, help her grant herself grace. Please provide some kind someone to offer her a helping hand. Give her a good friend to walk beside her on her journey. I pray that she would have moments of pure joy with each of her babies today. Let them make her smile and laugh out loud so that she might taste the reward of her labors. And when her husband walks in the door tonight, give him your eyes to see her. May he be overwhelmed by her sacrifice for his children. May he see her as more beautiful than ever before because she is pouring her life out for those babies. Let him take her in his arms and tell her so and then, Jesus, prompt him to roll up his sleeves and bathe a kid because they are in this together.

I pray that no one fights bedtime, no one has a night terror, and that the baby sleeps until morning light. One more thing, Jesus, be very near to this mom in the moment when the child is in bed and she sits in the quiet alone. She will be so tired and that is the very moment the accuser will come to whisper his worst. He will remind her of everything she should have done that she didn’t. He will run the replay of each moment of irritability, and every time she reached the end of her rope. Silence him, sweet Christ. May your voice be the only voice she hears. May she find rest in you and assurance that when she has given all she has and finds that in her humanity it is simply not enough, You most certainly do not condemn her. You make up the difference.

Amen

Day

Dear Heavenly Father:

Before the world could ever know, You created my precious child and crafted a beautiful blueprint for her life. Having special needs and even disabilities provide a different kind of normal for our family, but we are determined to praise you in the storm. While I’m so blessed to be the mama, we have our good days and our bad. Yet you guide us through each one, providing mercy and grace in exact measure. Now we come before you, simply asking that you measure out for us exactly what we need once more. That you who calms storms with your voice would calm the storms of our hearts with your presence. Amen.

PRAYER 2

A PRAYER IN GRATITUDE FOR OUR MOTHERS

Good and Gentle God,

we pray in gratitude for our mothers and for all the women of theory who have joined with you in the wonder of bringing forth new life. You who became human through a woman, grant to all mothers the courage they need to face the uncertain future that life with children always brings. Give them the strength to live and to be loved in return, not perfectly, but humanly. Give them the faithful support of husband, family and friends as they care for the physical and spiritual growth of their children. Give them joy and delight in their children to sustain them through the trials of motherhood. Most of all, give them the wisdom to turn to you for help when they need it most.
